8/19 Thompson Coverage

August 19th Coverage by Matt Skibisky

Unfortunately, this is the last write up from Thompson in 2012. We have had fun at Thompson, with some great turnouts, and great courses. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather for our last 2012 Thompson event. The course was slightly more technical than it has been the past couple of events.

A Stock was ruled by the Willamson duo of John and Dave. John’s B Stock STI got the better of Dave’s A Stock Boss 302 as John took the win with a 63.653. C Stock was once again ruled by Tom Mak. Mak’s 370z has been untouchable all year, and Mak kept the streak Sunday winning with a 60.386 of Ray Chang’s RX8. Putting the hurt on D Stock was the Mustang of Sam Derjue. Sam broke into the top 10 overall finishing with a 62.151. Sean Neal took the G Stock win in his Civic of the “slightly” older Civic of Ken Johnson.

Taking FTD once again in his BSP Cayman was Jim Matons. Matons was untouchable all day as he took FTD by over a second. The M3 of Yaro Taeger finished second with a 61.921. A new name was seen at the top of CSP Sunday as the 97 Miata of Mikhael El-Bayeh tops the Boxster of Jason Morgan by a mere 3 tenths. Finishing 3rd was Paul “Block your ears” Omichinski. E Street Prepared was once again the biggest class of the day. Putting down a blistering time of 61.613 and taking the win was the GT Mustang of Cole Leether. He and Mark Eastwood were going back and forth all day, but Eastwood will have to settle for second as he finished with a 62.340.

The Marc Boerma-less C Prepared was won by the second fastest car of the day, the Camaro of Phil Mackaronis. Phil broke into the 59’s on his last run to take the CP win by over 5 seconds over previous CP Champ, Ray Covino. Also keeping his winning streak alive and taking the FP win was the Fiero of Bob Doiron with a 64.249 over Andy Breault’s 280zx. Surprisingly, there was someone in F Prepared NOT named Bob. Speaking of Fieros…E Mod saw Jay Bode’s Fiero on top Sunday, keeping the powerful Corvette of Chris Faircloth and the nimble Miata of Joe Visciglia behind him.

STR was the home of a close 3 way battle all day between Jesse Birden, Matt Skibisky, and Jim Jaffe. Jaffe took the lead early on his 3rd run, then Skibisky took it away on his fourth. With the day coming to a close, Birden pulled off a very fast time of 63.274 to take the win with Skibisky finishing second and Jaffe third.

Also putting down a very fast time was Scott Murray. Murray had his STI hooking up all day as he finished with a 61.425. Taking the Street Mod win in an unorthodox way was Nick Fandacone. Nick couldn’t put down a clean run all day, but coning his first run of a 60.576 gave him the win anyway, as he finished with a 62.576, a half second over Lenny Hong’s Civic.

Z Novice was won by the RX7 of Ilia Reinfelds with a 64.428.

Y Novice was won by the BRZ of Daniel Cianci with a 63.512.

Our next event is our Pocono North track day this Saturday, the 25th. Our next autocross is back at Mohegan Sun on September 16th! If you missed the first Run @ The Sun, you don’t want to miss this one! See you there!
