August 5th Write Up

August 5th Autocross Coverage by Matt Skibisky

Another sunny Sunday? This is getting a bit weird… Matt Skibisky was event chair again for the autocross Sunday. The course was another fast course, with some very high speed sweepers, and some hard braking points. 68 Drivers attended the event.

Tom Mak controlled C Stock for another week. Mak led the second place finishing car of Becca Nell by over 5 seconds as he walks away with a 57.036 and a win. Andrew Grigg wanted his first back to back win in D Stock, but Sam Derjue didn’t let that happen, as Derjue led Grigg by 7 tenths, winning with a 60.282. Not too far behind Grigg, finishing third was Brad Snow in his Mini Cooper S.

Only taking 2 runs all day, but with his second run being good enough for the BSP win and FTD was the Cayman RS of Jim Matons. Matons set the time of the day: a 55.681. Setting an FTD time on his 5th run, but coning it right at the end was Mike Montelbano. Mike had 1 more run after that, but couldn’t quite catch Matons, and Mike and his 370Z had to settle for 2nd. CSP was led by a Porsche, but not the normal Omichinski Porsche. This time it was the Boxster of Jason Morgan with a 59.303. DSP was run by 3 series BMW’s Sunday. The quickest of the 4 BMW drivers was Michael Hurczyn who took the win with a 59.432. ESP was a 10 Mustang class Sunday, and Mark Eastwood and Cole Leether had to settle for the bottom 2 podium places, as Erik Carlson’s GT ran away with the class. He took the lead on his first run and was untouched all day, winning with a 56.944.

Being bumped to X Prepared from FP, Bob Doiron didn’t let those scary Corvette’s intimidate him, as he kept the powerful Chevy’s of Tom Cavuoto and Chris Faircloth behind him all day. Doiron finished with a quick 58.495. Speaking of American Muscle, C Prepared was controlled by it Sunday. The 2 Merkur’s couldn’t catch Marc Boerma’s 65 Mustang all day, and Boerma led the way with a 57.461.

STR was a shootout to the very last run. Jim Jaffe was leading the way all day, until Jesse Birden’s last run. Birden peddled his Miata to a win over Jaffe by a mere 7 hundredths with a 60.621.

Street Mod’s top 2 finishers were .001 of second apart. Nick Fandacone was putting up FTD times all day, but couldn’t keep the cones standing up. Fandacone would have to settle for second Sunday, as Ken Johnson’s WRX took the win with a 56.798, with Nicky finishing with a 56.799.

Z Novice was won by the Mustang of Sean LeBlanc with a 62.441.

Y Novice was won by the Mini of Derek Rummel with a  60.636.
