Run @ the ☼ II by Matt Skibisky
We’re back!! Mohegan Sun welcomed CART back for a second time to play on a perfect Sunday. The weather was sunny and mid 70’s, and the day went much smoother than our first event. Big thanks goes to Todd Doiron for chairing the event, Bob French for handling the parking, Kevin and Bob N for registration, and Jay for guiding our novices. I’m sure I forgot some people, so if you helped out in any way Sunday, THANK YOU!
B Stock was won by John Williamson. That’s right, John, you actually did NOT get bumped! John took advantage of being in the right class by taking a win with a 47.359.
Winning D Stock and getting some revenge on the usual winner of Sam Derjue’s Mustang was the Speed3 of Andrew Grigg. Grigg stayed clean all day…no cones..no DNF’s, finishing with a 47.864.
B Street Prepared was run by the Matons all day. Jim Matons, along with winning the class, also took FTD honors with an absolutely untouchable 43.198. His son, Claude, was second fastest of the day, and took second in class.
Winning C Street Prepared was Paul Omich…sorry…reflex. Yes..yes…Kevin Fitzmaurice and the Mohegan pavement seem to like each other as he took a big CSP win Sunday, winning by over 4 seconds with a 47.671.
E Street Prepared was the class to watch Sunday. All day, the lead changed several times between Cole Leether, John Leether, Mark Eastwood, and Paul Nevitt. Finishing on top for yet another week was Cole. Cole just barely squeaked by the GTA of Nevitt by 3 tenths.
Taking the XP win was the event chair, Todd Doiron. Doiron’s Fiero outran last years FTD Champ, John Santos, by 8 tenths, winning with a 44.749. Speaking of Fieros, winning F Prepared was Todd’s father, Bob. Bob seemed to have the car hooking up well all day, as Bob French and Bob Nogiec couldn’t catch the speedy Pontiac. Bob finished with a 47.
STX was another tight class. The current points leader, Greg Pocock, couldn’t quite catch the nimble Mini Cooper S of Said Hu. Said walked home with a win with a 48.382.
STR was a large class once again Sunday, and Jim Jaffe claimed the top spot as his once again. Jaffe was under attack from the Miata of last events STR winner, Jesse Birden, all day, but Jaffe prevailed and held Birden off by 3 tenths. Jaffe won with a 45.690.
We saw a new face on top of SMF Sunday. The Honda of John Rickermann was the fastest of the 3 SMF drivers. John finished with a 48.329.
SSM was made up of only 2 cars, but 2 VERY different cars: A supercharged C6 Corvette, and a Supercharged Miata. Although the C6 of Chris Faircloth was very quick all day, the tight course played into the Miata’s strengths, and winning with a 45.624 was Justin Baltrucki.
Winning ZN in his Audi A4 was Michael Kanisczak with a 50.034.
Winning YN in his Boxster was Chip Munk with a 47.001.
Finally, winning XN in his Legacy was Ken Green with a 53.353.
Again, thank you to ALL who helped out Sunday to make the Run @ the ☼ II a success! Our next 3 events will all be at LAZ. Check the website periodically for updates! See ya soon!
