C.A.R.T. Time Trials Vehicle Rules

ROLL BARS: Strongly recommended in all cars

- All open cars, sport racers, and modified production cars must have a roll bar.

- Open car & convertibles must have an SCCA or CART approved rollbar, which is at least 2" over the driver’s helmet. Please refer to the GCR for proper materials and construction.

SEAT BELTS: All cars must have metal-buckled seat belts in good condition with no cuts or abrasions. All cars must have shoulder harnesses. Racing type harness are recommended but not required. All cars classed as modified must have a competition belt system. "Y" belts will not be allowed if the "Y" joint is sewn.

RIMS: Multi-lug rims are not allowed.

TIRES: Must be in good condition with no defects and good tread. Higher than normal air pressure is recommended for street tires. Air is available at the track. If you are not sure about pressures, ask instructors for a ballpark starting point.

MUFFLERS: All Time Trial locations require a muffler decibel test, with 81db. being the maximum allowed. Lime Rock will not allow steel wool or tin cans to lower reading! Cars will be monitored throughout the day; anyone can be subject to dismissal for exceeding noise standards. There will be no refunds for failed db. test or dismissal.

SUSPENSION: Will be checked for ball joints and bearing wear; a floor jack may be used. Be sure to tighten all lugs. All lug nuts / studs must be in place. Lug nuts should be re-torqued after each run.

REAR VIEW and SIDE VIEW MIRRORS: Mandatory on all vehicles.

NUMBERS: Car numbers should be clearly visible to all course workers. The numbers should be a minimum of 6 inch high and of a contrasting color. The numbers must be places on both sides of the car (the door). Vinyl number may be placed on the side glass. ( the color white cannot be used). If you forget your number ask registration personal to purchase new or additional numbers.

For cars with two drivers (Two numbers), only one number will be allowed on the car at one time on the track. Have the number(s) on the car before tech. Contact paper works best. Competitors shall provide their own numbers, 8” in height, however; numbers may be purchased for a small fee at the event at the registration table. Masking or duct tape will not be allowed. Any numbers applied to side windows must be yellow in color.

NOVICES - We REQUIRE a large letter “N” on the rear of your car to signify that you are a novice.

LIGHTS: All cars are required to have rear brake lights in working order

OVERALL CONDITION OF THE CAR: Cars must be in good mechanical condition. Cleanliness is most important inside and out. All forward-facing lights must be taped. Brake lights (mandatory for all cars) must work. All loose articles in interior and trunk must be removed or securely fastened. Any wheel covers, trim rings, etc. must be removed.

Any rust areas will be inspected for safety, structural strength and to insure that no metal or other materials will fall off on the track.

NOTE: We do not require fire extinguishers and do not recommend them because most brackets are not strong enough to secure them in a crash. It then becomes another missile flying around the passenger compartment.
